Marhaba and Hello,
I still remember the first time I had a fight cooking a cabbage, HILARIOUS!
I did not know that cooking a cabbage requires removing the core with a sharp knife (careful) and then placing it in a pot of boiling water. Fighting with the cabbage leaves to separate without the boiling water does not really work.
Ingredients:
1 cabbage
3 big strip steaks
1 pound ground beef
1 small chopped onion
3/4 cup white pearl rice
1 tbsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tbsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp cumin
1 tbsp dry mint
5 minced garlic
2 lemon juice
Preparation:
Bring a pot to a boil. Remove the core of the cabbage then place it in boiling water. Separate the leaves as the cabbage is boiling with a fork and a knife. The cabbage leaves should be quite soft before removing them from water. Wash the leaves and place in a colander.
Now to prepare the mix. In a bowl, add beef, onion, rice, salt, black pepper, cinnamon, and cumin. Mix by hand
Arrange the leaves on the counter top or wooden board. Place each leaf on top
Remove the hard stems from the leaves and set aside
Place about 1 tbsp of mix on cabbage leaf. Roll leaving ends untucked
Heat a skillet with a drizzle of olive oil. Put the steaks in skillet with a pinch of salt and black pepper. Cook on each side for 5 minutes. Transfer the steaks to a cooking pot. Add the cabbage stems. Add the rolled cabbage. Place a plate or lid on top of your cabbage smaller in size than your actual pot (This prevents leaves from unrolling) .Add garlic, salt, dry mint, lemon juice, and water to barely cover the lid or plate. When water starts to boil, reduce heat. Cover the pot and leave for two hours.
