Happy Green Day to all,
I love cooking with green beans and especially string beans or as we call it Loubyeh Msallat.
Just because it has the cutest story.
So once upon a time, a green string ran along the seam of the bean pod and was obvious when the bean snapped. The snapping noise was the reason for this cute nickname, the "snap" bean.
Did you know?
*Green beans originated in Peru
*A spanish explorer introduced them to Europe in 16th C
*They were grown by native Americans
*The French were the first to put green beans on their restaurant menus
*By 1952, Oregon grew 10,0000acres of green beans
*The Spaniards used green beans for ornaments
And at the end, some string beans fell into my skillet to be tossed the way we all like it.
Ingredients:
1 pound green string beans
1 chopped onion
5 chopped garlic cloves
1 bunch fresh cilantro
Salt
1 tsp ground coriander
1/4 cup olive oil
Preparation:
In a skillet heat olive oil. Add the chopped onions and the garlic. Sautee until light brown in color. Add beans to skillet. Toss for about 5 minutes. Add salt and coriander. Add cilantro.
Add 2 cups water. Cover and simmer for about 40 minutes.
