Istanbul, the city of magic and fantasy, the city of love and dreams. This is my least definition for the city I adore.
One of the many beautiful things I bring back home besides adoration to Istanbul, I bring back red rose petals for cooking and decorating.
Strolling the grand bazar, sitting on a public stool and having a kabab sandwich is one of my biggest entertainment. Shopping comes next!!!
So today, I used the red and pink rose petals in preparing memorable rose cookies.
Ingredients:
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
3 cups sifted flour
2 cups melted butter
1 egg
1/3 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp rose water
1/2 cup mini rose petals
Jam for filling
Preparation:
Heat oven to 375 degrees F
Line a tray with parchment paper
Sift powdered sugar and flour
Add the egg
Add vanilla extract
Add rose water
Add butter
Mix all ingredients to form a cookie dough
Divide dough into small balls
Roll dough (about 0.5 cm) Use a cookie cutter to cut dough. For the open up cookies, make a small hole in the centre of the cookie
Bake for 15 minutes
Let cool
Use a tsp to spread jam on a whole cookie. Place the cookie with a hole on top of the whole cookie.
Sift 1/3 cup of powdered sugar for decoration
Serve with cold milk, Cafe, Cappuccino, or tea.
