Preparing this ancient meal is as easy as the written Phoenician alphabetical script on papyrus. I found peeled split fava beans at Phoenicia store and prepared it with love and heritage.
Ingredients:
16 oz frozen bag of peeled split fava beans
1/2 pound ground beef
1 cup ancient grain rice (a mix of quinoa, oats, red rice, wheat berries, barley, wheat)
Salt
1/3 white pepper
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp black pepper
3 tbsp olive oil
1 small chopped onion
Preparation:
In a hot skillet, add olive oil, onions and ground beef
Add salt, cinnamon, and black pepper
Break meat into small pieces then brown
Cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes
Add the fava beans to the skillet
Add one cup ancient grain rice
Add two cups water
Add salt
Add white pepper
Cover and cook on low heat until water completely absorbed
Serve with plain yoghurt
Sahtein/ Enjoy
