Today, our first flood for the year 2017. It is flooding and pouring like never before and with this weather condition, my mind goes to either soup or Farro.
In Lebanon, we prepare Farro, which is also called "Amhiyeh" (wheat), or "Snayniyeh" (teeth) during cold winter weathers and surprisingly enough when a family celebrates the appearance of a new baby's tooth. A cute, sweet, healthy tradition and I love it as much as I love Amhiyeh.
IToday, I gave Farro another good name,"Farro For Pharoah" because it is truly royal to start your early morning with a nutritious wholesome breakfast.
Ingredients:
1 cup farro
3 cups water
1/3 tsp cinnamon powder
1/2 tsp anise powder
1/3 cup pistachio
1/3 cup pomegranate seeds
1/3 cup pine nuts
1 tsp rose water
1 tsp orange blossom
1/2 tsp brown sugar
*Measurements for two bowl servings
Preparation:
Soak pine nuts, pistachio, walnuts in water
Bring water to a boil
Add anise powder
Add Farro and cook for 10 minutes. Farro should be nutty and NOT fully cooked
Remove from heat
Serve hot or cold
Add sugar, cinnamon powder, rose water, orange blossom. Mix
Decorate with pomegranate seeds and nuts
