Ingredients:
For the syrup:
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp rose water
Rose petals
1 pack phyllo dough
2 cups walnuts (medium ground)
1 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp rose water
2 tbsp orange blossom
1/2 cup butter melted
Ground pistachio for garnish
Preparation:
Heat oven to 375 degrees F
Prepare the syrup by mixing sugar and water. Boil on low heat. Then add lemon juice. Boil for 10 minutes. Add rose water. Let cool. You can add rose petals to syrup after it cools down.
In a bowl, mix walnuts, sugar, rose water and orange blossom.
Brush a 9 by 13 inch baking pan with butter. Layer 3 sheets of phyllo in pan. Brush sheets with butter. Then layer another 3 sheets of phyllo and brush with butter. Sprinkle nuts over the 6 layers of phyllo.
Add 3 sheets of phyllo on top of the walnuts and brush with butter. Add another 3 layers of phyllo and brush with remaining melted butter. Cut into diagonal slices and bake until golden brown. Pour the syrup on baklava. Let soak. Garnish with nuts.
